On a stormy night, Elmer Fuller, young musician, walked trough St. John street, on Lakeway Town, at night, humming a song from his youth, and remembering the first song he wrote.
As he gazed the silent, at that moment lone sidewalk, he noticed a somewhat nervous person, walking out of a barely lit alley, breathing heavily. With an unnerving gaze, he could see a trambling smile drawing on her mouth. Elmer, a tall man of calm, optimistic expression, and laid-back attitude, felt insecure.
-Good night, isn't it?-she said, walking in a slow paze, never stopping looking at his eyes-.
-Seems so.-He replied, trying to discern her, or at least be far enough to try to run if she became hostile-.
-I see...Then I will leave. Goodbye.-She walked quickly, just as the lights from the street exploded, preventing him from see her completely-. Once she went away, he walked to the alleyway. And then proceeded to run straight to his home, in the Albertson department complex, without screaming, but in a trace of dread that didn't left him for the rest of the night. On the morning, everything was quite different. The television was turned on.
Last night, he hadn't used it. A chill went down his spine, but not as intense as the goosebumps that soon took him over. On the news, a certain discovery was being made. A woman had been heartlessly slained at the end of the alleyway he visited curiously.
He went to work with a lump on his throat. The image of that strange girl buried on his mind
and worried him. Once the day ended, and upon returning to his home, he pushed the door and went in.
-What the...-On the entrance, a message was written with what seemed to be red paint. It was fresh. The message read "What did you see?"-.
He closed the door, and went to his room...nothing had changed.
A banging on the door startled him, already nervous, and oddly remembering the girl.
He went to the door and opened it while the banging became louder and more constant.
-Mister Elmer Fuller?-A policeman inquired, with a very unfriendly face, silver eyes, and a deep blue uniform, different from the local attire-.
-Yes...why are you there?
-A killing was commited yesterday. You might know something about it. This is not a separate crime. Several killings had taken place here...and all pointed at this place. May I come in?-The cop finished, showing Elmer his badge-.
-Sure.
After a long talk, he described specifically all that he saw. Officer Helmutt listened, writing everything, and telling him he was going to be safe.
That night, however, that proved to be wrong.
He was laying on his bed, shivering softly, carrying an old guitar on his hands for protection.
For a moment, the ligths flickered, and stayed off.
He tried to turn on the lamp. He looked behind himself, but no one was there. Util he swore having heard a voice, and looked to his left. The girl was there. He got a better glympse: Her hair was dark red, her eyes were two small, inhuman and white dots, along with a huge, feral smirk that showed her sharp fangs. She was dressed as a mime, with a striped sweter, and black pants. She holded him from the shoulders...
-What did you saw...Witness?-She laughed in a way a normal human's throat wouldn't be able to-.
-Let me go, you...-He stopped. for the first time, Ernest wasn't sure of what, or who was the being holding him still. He saw a yellow flash...and three crystaline beings appeared before him, and gazed the humanoid. They nodded, and moved a bit. She carried him with one arm, showing an unexplainable sthrenght, and took him to the Hollowlands...
Finally, while Ernest Fuller ceased to exist on this earth, in the floor below a neighbor hitted the ceiling, irritated.
-Some of us need to sleep!!-Said Neil Stane, an artist ready to do a new sculpture...
